Born from the rich musical and historical heritage of San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia (the first free black town in America), Kombilesa Mí fuses the traditional sounds of the Colombian Caribbean such as Bullerengue Cumbia, Mapalé, Champeta with rap, creators of Rap Folklóriko Palenkero RFP. The group experiments with the instruments created by their ancestors (and that were presented to them when they were young), superimposing them between new sounds. On traditional percussion, handmade metal drums of his own design and marímbula, Kombilesa Mí rima raps in Spanish and in the traditional Palenquera language, a vernacular language of African origin, a fusion of Bantu and contributions from Portuguese, French, English and Spanish. Kombilesa Mí's most recognized hits such as Má Kuagro, Así es palenque, Los pelosuelos, I a Piya Bó, among others, are part of his two albums. The first Así es palenque released in 2016 with which they were nominated for best independent group at the Shock awards in Colombia and the second Esa palenkera released in 2018 with which they made their debut tour in the United States participating in stages such as NPR Tiny Desk in 2022 and the MTV & Paramount Street Documentary. This year, promoting their third album Asina Gue, they have participated in stages such as Teatro Market Johannesburg South Africa 2023. New Orleans Jazz Festival Congo Square 2024.
