The Arts Office is responsible for coordinating, designing, and implementing policies, plans, programs, and projects that promote the social appreciation, practice, expression, knowledge, and enjoyment of the arts as a right of all Colombian citizens. It was established in 1997 to drive the democratization, decentralization, and development of the dance, music, theater, visual arts, circus, and arts education sectors, as well as to recognize hybrid, transdisciplinary, and community-based artistic expressions, and the creative contributions of diverse populations. It is grounded in the transformative power of the arts and the guarantee and enjoyment of cultural rights as a fundamental axis for building peace and fostering local and national development.
