Llorona Records: Redefining Colombian Roots Music for the Future Based in Bogotá, Colombia, Llorona Records is a powerhouse in shaping the future of Colombian and Caribbean roots music. With a forward-thinking vision, the label blends tradition with innovation, presenting a catalog that spans from the vibrant mento and calypso of Elkin Robinson from Colombia’s Caribbean archipelago, to the deep-rooted cumbia and gaita traditions of Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, to Cerrero’s dub-infused Latin electronic sound, and Nidia Góngora's marimba ensemble, Canalón de Timbiquí. Recently, Llorona joined forces with Territorios de Oportunidad to launch Discos Pacífico, a bold new imprint serving as a creative lab for the powerful sounds of Colombia’s Pacific region. Since its inception in 2007, Llorona Records has been more than a record label—it’s a cultural foundation that connects Colombia’s traditional sounds with contemporary musical expressions. The label’s projects foster collaboration between artists, communities, and organizations, creating a bridge between the past and the future through music. The label is also deeply committed to preserving and promoting Colombia’s diverse musical heritage, often working with communities and local artists to document and share their traditions with the world. Through their innovative approach, Llorona Records has helped bring global attention to Colombia's rich cultural legacy while providing a platform for emerging voices within the global music scene. Llorona's roster includes a variety of talented artists who not only represent the heart of Colombian music but also push the boundaries of what these traditions can become in the modern era. From Elkin Robinson’s English-language calypso ballads to Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto’s Afro-Colombian Caribbean cumbia legends, to Cerrero’s electronic explorations of ancestral sounds, Llorona Records has built a diverse and visionary roster that pushes Colombian music into new territories. Additionally, Llorona Records’ collaborative efforts with international artists and producers have opened doors for a global conversation on the evolution of Colombian music, cementing its role as an ambassador of both cultural preservation and innovation in the global music industry.
