The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival was founded in 1970 with a mission to preserve, protect, perpetuate, and encourage the music and cultural communities of Louisiana. With 14 stages over 2 weekends, and nearly half a million attendees annually, the festival presents over 550 bands that represent the music genres of the region; jazz, gospel, blues, rock, Cajun, Zydeco, Brass Bands, and much more. While at least 85% of the bands are Louisiana- based, the festival also presents international groups, primarily of African, Caribbean, Acadienne, and Francophone descent, that share common roots to the multi-cultural heritage of Louisiana. The Cultural Exchange Village at Jazz Fest annually spotlights a country or culture with strong connectivity to the multi-cultural heritage and rhythms of Louisiana, featuring bands on the Cultural Exchange Pavilion Stage, and artisans, master craftsmen, and culture bearers demonstrating their craft in the surrounding village.
